From Nurse to Nomad: Embracing Life’s Adventures

My name is Jeff.  As of today I am retired and, based on the typical social constructs, will be homeless.  I will be selling my home and living a nomadic lifestyle out of my 2018 Jeep Wrangler JKU and small off road camper with my service dog, Nana.  I am an Air Force veteran and retired nurse from the Veterans Health Administration.

I have always been enamored by people that live in alternative or unique housing conditions.  People secretly living in malls, public buildings, vehicles, boats or hopping trains to travel the country.  Conversely,  living in the confines of a traditional lifestyle has not appealed to me for quite some time.  As I have aged the idea of having the house with a white picket fence, spouse, and a dog is suffocating.  I am not certain there is any gypsy in my Bohemian blood but I have never felt satisfied staying in one spot doing the same thing for very long.  I hear the open road and adventure calling my name and, if for no other reason than to find out where it takes me, I feel I must follow it

I have no idea how to create a website let alone label what it is I am doing here.  Who knows what this will end up being as I learn what I am doing along the way.  As more of a challenge to myself; I have tried to set forth some expectations of the website and what it contains.

  1. I will attempt to post something new at least once a week.  This of course may vary based on internet availability.
  2. I want things to be forward thinking.  I’ve spent a lot of time reliving the past and I am slowly learning how to let things, and people, go.  It is my hope that the things I share here are focused on the now and  future.
  3. This is not meant to be an in-depth all encompassing historical documentation of my past, present or future but rather some snippets or insight into my life that some may find interesting.
  4. If I can figure out how to work the comments please feel free to leave them.  I am open to constructive criticism especially when it comes to bettering my photography.  Negative, spiteful, rude or mean comments will likely be ignored or just deleted.  The world has enough of that in it and I’ve neither the time or patience to deal with it.

As I write about my personal experiences with photography, travel, service dog handling, camping, canoeing or whatever adventure finds its way to us I hope you can join Nana and I along the way!
